Call Him Rashid

How does a UK singer and jazz guitarist such as Rashid ALI from Surbiton in Surrey end up getting signed by India's most famous and renowned Music Director, A R Rahman through his own label KM Musiq?

Rashid met A R Rahman at a Charity concert in aid of the earthquake in Gujarat and they soon discovered that they both shared common ground in their association with Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahib. Following that destined encounter, Rashid has regularly worked with A R Rahman, singing and playing live on tour in his concerts around the world as well playing guitar on numerous film recordings.

Then everything else was history, Rashid sung on the studio recording of Kabhi Kabhi Aditi and Kahin Toh from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. They became massive hits in 2008. As a result, Rashid received great acclaim including nominations for Filmfare, Star Screen, Stardust and Radio Mirchi Awards. Not bad for a first Bollywood hit and from a singer who never had any vocal training!

Since then Rashid has lent his voice for several other Bollywood songs including Call Me Dil for the film Jhootha Hi Sahi, Ishq Ada Hai for Ada and Sun Lo Zara for the film Ek Deewana Tha.

Rashid has regularly performed live, including performing with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in May 2012 as part of a very special Bollywood project to celebrate the music of RD Burman as well as frequent appearances as featured Artist in numerous A R Rahman concerts.

Rahman asked Rashid to become the first artist to sign to his K M MUSIQ label. Rahman has produced all the songs which have been composed by Rashid and written by another Rahman acolyte, Raqueeb Alam.

The album titled CALL ME RASHID showcases Rashids flawless guitar playing and distinctive voice. Also, the well-known and respected Indian Actress Tabu makes a guest appearance on one of the album's videos, Parda Parda. This album includes a remake of the hit song Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi and was nominated in the Best Indi Pop Album of the Year 2012 in the Radio Mirchi Awards 2013. Riding high on his non-film success, Rashid has recently won more hearts with the song Nazar Laaye from the massive summer hit Raanjhanaa which is a duet with the lively & enchanting songstress Neeti Mohan.
